Jesus, Erin Garcia de. “Young Adults Can Face Severe Cases of COVID-19, Too.” Science News, 20 Mar. 2020, www.sciencenews.org/article/coronavirus-covid19-young-adults-can-face-severe-cases.

For my 20th current event, I chose to read the article “Young Adults Can Face Severe Cases of COVID-19, Too” by Erin Garcia de Jesus. The article describes a new analysis of COVID-19 cases that shows that while elderly people are still the most likely to become seriously ill, young adults do still have the potential to become extremely sick as a result of COVID-19.  The earliest data from China suggested that most severe COVID-19 cases and deaths happen in adults aged 60 or older as well as those with underlying conditions. But the first analysis of U.S. cases, which was recently released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, shows that 1 in 5 people ending up in the hospital as a result of COVID-19 are actually 20 to 44 years old. France and Italy are also reporting more young people suffering seriously from this illness.
This article is extremely relevant to society right now as our country and the entire world suffers and makes sacrifices to help deal with the spread of COVID-19. It was previously believed that the virus could only seriously affect elderly people but this article has now introduced the idea that it can seriously affect younger people as well.

While overall this is a fairly strong article, there are a few things that Garcia de Jesus could do to improve it even further. While it included very interesting information from the analysis of the CDC, I felt that she could have included some more quotes from experts on the topic, because the one that she did is not that strong. However for the most part it is a very informative and interesting article.

For my 1st current review I decided to comment on Olivia's project Jesus, Erin Garcia de. “Young Adults Can Face Severe Cases of COVID-19, Too.” Science News, 20 Mar. 2020, www.sciencenews.org/article/coronavirus-covid19-young-adults-can-face-severe-cases. Her review was very well written and informative about Covid, especially for the time period. Olivia says that while older people may be the ones who face the most risk, young adults can suffer from Covid 19 just as much. She gives a great graphic and stats to back up her points as well. One of her points states that 1 in 5 people in the hospital are actually ages 22-44. This, from the graph, is the second highest hospitalization rate out of any age group.
While this was very well written and presented, I feel like she could have quoted the article more and used more facts from the article. I noticed she said that there were not a lot of facts and evidence in the article about this so it is not totally her fault, but I would suggest picking a more scientific article with more supporting facts. I also feel like she could have spent some more time about the article and the summary. I felt as though this was very brief for current events so compelling as this.
Overall besides a few things, I thought the actual current events was very well written. I felt like her relevance to today was very strong and accurate. I also liked how she acknowledged the flaws of this article at the end.

Olivia’s review was very well written and informative about Covid, especially for the time period. Olivia says that while older people may be the ones who face the most risk, young adults can suffer from COVID-19 just as much. She gives a great graphic and stats to back up her points as well. One of her points states that 1 in 5 people in the hospital are actually ages 22-44. This, from the graph, is the second highest hospitalization rate out of any age group. This graph really helps Olivia's current event a tremendous amount. Most people did not include any sort of visual aid or graph for visual learners, so I feel it adds a lot of value. She does a great job explaining the graph as well in the paragraph above. Olivia not only explains the dangers of Covid-19, but the dangers for younger people as well. The dangers of Covid is for all age groups we know now.
While this was very well written and presented, Olivia could have quoted more facts and evidence from the article. However, she did mention that the article lacked in this area which isn’t entirely her fault. To improve this, I would pull information from the graph and use that as my supporting evidence. Another suggestion would be to select a more scientific and fact rich article. In addition, I feel Olivia could have spent some more time summarizing the article. The coronavirus is a very compelling topic with new information and data arising every single day. I personally felt this description for this article was slightly vague. To improve this, I would try to elaborate more on specific areas of the article that demand emphasis and explanation. This would help enhance Olivia’s review by making it more engaging to the reader.
From this current event review, I learned a great deal of information about the Coronavirus. One aspect of the review I found interesting was the graph. According to the graph there were very few hospitalizations and no deaths for the 0-19 age group whereas all the other age groups had a considerable amount of hospitalizations and deaths. Although the 0-19 age group is seemingly unaffected by the virus, all other age groups face a heavy risk. This graph provided me with a new perspective on the COVID-19 pandemic. Overall besides a few things, I thought the actual current events were very well written. I felt like her relevance to today was very strong and accurate. I also liked how she acknowledged the flaws of this article at the end.
