I reviewed “Trump Signs Executive Order Unwinding Obama Climate Policies” by Coral Davenport. In the article Davenport talks about the recent executive order president Trump signed which is intended to roll back many of the climate change reforms Barack Obama has made. The goal is to restore jobs in the coal industry. Trump signed  a document titled the “Energy Independence” executive order, starting the legal process of withdrawing and rewriting the Clean Power Plan.Trump even said to the miners, “C’mon fellas. You know what this is? You know what this says? You’re going back to work”. He also said “We’re ending the theft of American prosperity and reviving our beloved economy, The miners told me about the attacks on their jobs. I made them this promise. We will put our miners back to work”. Even though this new executive order may keep the coal industry alive for a short while, the industry was already in decline due to cheaper and more environmentally friendly alternatives being used.
This article affects the entire world. If Trump does not keep up the agreement set forth by a Paris summit where many nations came together to agree upon reducing carbon footprint, Trump could set up a dangerous precedent for other countries to abandon their agreements. A raise in global temperature could lock the Earth into flooding, drought, as well as food and water shortages.
Overall, I think that the author did a good job at writing this article. They presented all the actions president Trump took then examined their true efficacy. One thing the author could have done is mention alternative ways to spur economic growth as well as keep the environment safe.

I greatly enjoyed Alex’s review of “Trump Signs Executive Order Unwinding Obama Climate Policies.” I appreciated that Alex included quotes from Trump, as this helped me better understand Trump’s attitude toward the topic and the complexity of the issues at hand. Second, I liked that Alex described both the long and short term effects of Trump’s actions. This was very helpful to me, as I could understand both the motives behind Trump’s actions and the big-picture effects that this would have. Lastly, I enjoyed Alex’s inclusion of the fact that the author did not include any ideas to fix the problem. I would also change this about the article, and I am glad that Alex drew attention to it.
If there was one thing I could change about Alex’s review, I would just touch up his grammar a bit. Most of it was spot on, but a few spelling errors took me out of the paper, and fixing those would allow me to stay focused. Second, I would talk about some of the climate change reforms that are being rolled back. This would allow me to make an informed decision about how much of an impact this order will have on the world.
Overall, I greatly appreciated Alex’s review of this article. I did not know that Trump had signed this order, and I am very glad to know about an issue that could have an immense effect on the health of the world.

  2. Alex wrote an excellent response to the article “Trump Signs Executive Order Unwinding Obama Climate Policies” by Coral Davenport. He begins with a succinct and informative summary that provides the reader with all of the necessary information. He is able to effectively and efficiently describes President Trump’s executive order that is designed to roll back many of the climate change reforms that the previous president had set in motion. I like how Alex includes detailed quotes from Donald Trump because they help to provide insight into his decision. Alex also did a great job of explaining the significance of this article to society. He points out that Trump’s decision to violate the agreement made by a Paris Summit could set a dangerous precedent for other countries and could contribute significantly to the increase in climate change. Alex is successfully able to connect to the negative effects that the president’s decision could have on other countries as well as Earth itself.
Although Alex wrote a well-written and thorough current event report, there are two places that he could improve upon. Alex could have included more information about the climate change reforms that Barack Obama made during his presidency so that the reader is able to understand what exactly it is that Trump is abandoning. This information would have provided the reader with a more well-rounded and thorough perspective on the issue. I also wish that Alex had gone into more depth about how Davenport could improve his article. Alex includes a great suggestion in his last paragraph, but he does not give an explanation as to why this is needed.
After reading Alex’s response to the article “Trump Signs Executive Order Unwinding Obama Climate Policies,” I now know that President Trump has dealt a severe blow to the fight against climate change. I think that this article is extremely relevant to society because this decision will probably determine how people will combat global warming in the future (when it may be too late) and it will probably have devastating effects on our planet.
