SpaceX Makes Historic Rocket Landing

For the first time ever SpaceX successfully landed a rocket sent into space on a drone ship. SpaceX is a company founded by Elon Musk (the creator of tesla) and is a private space exploration group. They launched the rocket sending a dragon capsule to the international space station (ISS) and had it land on a drone ship. SpaceX had attempted this many times before but the rocket continued to go through the ship or tip it over. This is important because as we continue to explore space there are many advantages to having the ability to land on water. SpaceX claims that for most of the space missions that go outside earth’s orbit it is essential for them to land on water. Being able to land on water also makes it possible for the rockets to be reused which can saves millions and millions of dollars. My favorite quote from Elon Musk about this success is “We will be successful when this becomes boring”.
I thought the article was really well written and explained simply why the event was so successful. Before this rockets were not able to land and there was no hope of them being reusable. The article also incorporated information about SpaceX because I had heard of it before but wasn't sure exactly what is was. The author also incorporated quotes from people such as obama congratulating SpaceX on their success.
This article is relevant because space exploration is so important in our world. We have come very far in the types of technology we have for exploring our universe. Reading this I’m happy to know we have more than just NASA, which has had problems with funding, trying to explore space. I just think everyone could benefit by learning more about SpaceX and the kinds of incredible work they are doing.

  1. I thought that Dryden did a great job of reviewing her article “SpaceX Makes Historic Rocket Landing.” She clearly and concisely described the historic landing of a private space capsule on a drone ship, and explained its significance as the first successful trial of this project.
She also discussed the importance of the landing for space technology today and the emerging industry of space travel, and how NASA is no longer the only company purusing space travel. Dryden also included background information on the project, which was helpful in understanding the importance of this project and the significance of its success.
I think that Dryden’s review would have been stronger if she had voiced her opinion on the subject more strongly; she discusses the importance of this project to the world today, but doesn’t mention why she chose the article or what the topic means to her. I also think that it would have been helpful to include quotes from those who worked on the project or who were influential in shaping the success of the campaign.
Overall, I thought that Dryden did a great job reviewing this article. It is very interesting to learn about new advancements in space technology, and to follow the emergence of other technology that is growing privately. I’ll be sure to follow this topic as it develops.

  2. I think Dryden did a great job reviewing this article. I particularly liked how she discussed certain aspects of SpaceX in detail, such as why it must land on water, which made the article more clear to the reader. I thought it was a good decision to incorporate a quote from the author at the end of her review because it adds authenticity. I also enjoyed her relevance paragraph because it truly expanded the article to the bigger picture relating it to the importance of NASA and space exploration.
Although Dryden's review was strong, there are certain areas in which she can improve to make it even stronger. She mentioned Obama commenting on the SpaceX so a quote from the President would have enhanced her article greatly. I also wish some of Dryden's own opinions came through in this piece and how she came to choose it because she merely relates it to the real world instead of also connecting it to herself.
Overall, Dryden did a great job reviewing the article. I was interested to see how the SpaceX relates to us and NASA because I am always curious in regards to space exploration.

  3. Dryden did a great job of reviewing the article, “SpaceX Makes Historic Rocket Landing.” She clearly described the Spacex and why it was so important that the rocket was finally able to land at a space station. Before this, all of the rockets had overshot and had not been able to land. With a successful landing, scientists can finally bring back samples to Earth and explore more of space to see if there are any biotic components that could help humans survive. Another aspect that Dryden did really well on was describing the article’s relevance to the public and why this event marks another milestone in learning more about space and possibly even being able to inhabit space. Lastly, Dyrden made a good choice of incorporating a quote from Elon Musk at the end of her review, enhancing the validity of the article and review.
Although the review was well written, Dryden could have improved on a number of aspects. For instance, she could have voiced her opinion on what she thought was lacking from the article. She also mentioned a quote from Obama, but did not mention what he said. SpaceX and details about the landing could have been incorporated throughout more frequently too.
Overall, Dryden did a great job of reviewing the article. It was very interesting to learn about new advancements that have been made in space because much of space is largely unresearched. Due to increased global warming the increasing rate at which humans are destroying the planet, space research is becoming more vital if the human race wants to survive.

  4. Dryden did a fantastic job of reviewing the article, “SpaceX Makes Historic Rocket Landing.” She gave a clear explanation of the background of SpaceX before introducing us to their current and successful landing; this made the topic easy to understand from the very beginning of her review. She also made an insightful comment on the importance of this rocket landing not only to this company but to space exploration as a whole as well. Additionally, Dryden’s inclusion of a quote from the founder of SpaceX, Elon Musk, strengthened her summary of the article.
Although this review was well written, there are a couple improvements that can be made. I believe that the review could be even better if she included another quote, in addition to the founder’s statement, from a scientist or astronaut that actually worked on this project to better explain the success of the landing. I also think that she could have elaborated on her own opinion on this topic and whether she feels the SpaceX company is truly making strides in space exploration.
Before reading this article and review I had never heard of SpaceX, so it was fascinating to learn about a new company that may eventually challenge NASA in space exploration. I find advancements in space technology to be quite interesting, so I hope to read about more developments and success stories regarding this company.

  5. I thought that this article review was very well done. I particularly liked how Dryden mentioned the importance of the work being done by this outside company (Tesla), besides just NASA. I think that she touched on the importance of having many different companies involved in space exploration, which would lead to helpful competition, and also work so that even if one company is low in income to fund projects, there are other companies still out there. Additionally, I like how Dryden included background of the SpaceX company, who was founded by Elon Musk, the creator of Tesla. Lastly, I liked how Dryden incorporated the importance of this spacecraft in being able to save millions of dollars, because they can land and water and be reused.
Although I really liked this review, there are some improvements that I would suggest. First, although I liked the use of the quote from Elon Musk, I thought that there should have been an explanation on what it meant. The quote ended a paragraph, leaving the reader a little lost. I think an explanation on how success comes from boredom would enhance the quote, and better ended the paragraph. Also, I thought that the summary could have had more information on the spacecraft itself: more of an explanation of the technological advancements that enabled it to land on water.
I was drawn to this article, because the first sentence lured me to read about how the founder of a car company could be involved in crafting spacecrafts. This article showed how there are many innovations that can be taken to preserve the rockets, and thus money, by landing on water. Additionally, it showed the positive impact of outside, private companies getting involved in the quest for space.

  6. I enjoyed reading the review of the New York Times article, "SpaceX Says It Plans to Send a Probe to Mars." The summary was informative and concise. SpaceX has landed a rocket into space on a drone ship. SpaceX, a company founded by Elon Musk, is a private space exploration group. The rocket was launched by sending a dragon capsule to the international space station. SpaceX is aware that for the majority of space missions that go outisde earth's orbit, it essential that they are able to land on water. The ability to land on water makes it possible for the rocket to be reused, which can save millions of dollars. The level of this discovery was clearly addressed. As quoted from SpaceX, "we will be successful when this becomes boring." The failures of SpaceX were clearly written about as well. SpaceX has attempted this procedure many times, but it would go through the ship or tip over.
It would have been interesting to see graphics or images of the actual rocketship. More quotations from leaders of SpaceX would have strengthened the analysis of the article. This new rocket is a huge advancement in space exploration. It was interesting to hear about SpaceX as opposed to NASA.

  8. In Dryden’s review of the article “SpaceX Makes Historic Rocket Landing,” I think she did a good job of summarizing the article. She provided some background on what SpaceX is, which was helpful as I was not familiar with the company beforehand. She also did a nice job on providing reasons as to why the rocket landing in space was so important, including why other missions of this sort were unsuccessful. Lastly, I really liked how Dryden included her favorite quote from the article because it gave her review a personal touch and helped provide a nice end to the summary.
On the other hand, Dryden could have improved her review. I think adding a picture of the mission would have added to her review. Since it was the first successful mission of its type, I think many readers would be interested in what it looked like. Additionally, I think Dryden could have incorporated her own opinion on the space mission into her review more, instead of just having her opinion on the article itself.
I thought Dryden picked a really interesting article to review. It showed me how our desire to learn more about space continues to grow and advance. The article title really drew me into reading her review because of the word “historic.” I wanted to know exactly what this space mission was because according to that word, it was extremely important. This makes me excited for the future and I will now anticipate further advancements in other space missions.
